Competition Rules

The minimum age for a participation at the Chamionships is 16 years at the day of the competition. A pre-qualification for a participation at the German Championships is not required. Prior to the competitions all participating couples are placed by the jury at a general look in their appropriate class (D, C, B, A) at a classifaction dance in both standard and latin ballroom dances. At the general look classification there are three dances to be shown:   Standard: - Slow Walz (LW) - Tango (TG) - Quickstepp (QS) Latin: - Cha Cha Cha (CC) - Rumba (RB) - Jive (JI) After the general look the competitions take place in all classes D, C, B and A in both sections standard and latin. The realisation of the competitions is based on the rules of the European Same-Sex Dance Association (ESSDA). Exceptions concern i.e. the advancing of a dance couple to the next class. Depending on the numbers of couples in the separate classes the competitions will be divided in several heats (preliminary, semi- final and final). A dancing couple must consist of two female or two male persons. A dancer can compete together with one dancer in the standard section and with another dancer in the latin section. It is not allowed that a dancer will compete in more than one class in one section. An exception is a couple winning in a class (i.e. the B-class) and being automatically qualified to compete in the next higher class (here the A-class). All finals of the Championships are judged with non-visible results during the heats. Female and male couples compete in their own separate classes and are therefore judged separately. Following the finals of the A-classes, the winning couple of all 10 dances is determined. To be considered for this award a dancer has to dance with the same partner in both sections (standard and latin). In the standard section the classes D, C, B and A will contain this dances:   D-class: LW, TG, QS C-class: LW, TG, QS B-class: LW, TG, SF, QS A-class: LW, TG, WW, SF, QS   In the latin section the classes D, C, B and A will contain this dances:   D-class: CC, RB, JI C-class: CC, RB, JI B-class: SB, CC, RB, JI A-class: SB, CC, RB, PD, JI   In all heats the duration of a dance will be approx. 1.30 min. In the preliminary heats and in the semi-finals the Paso Doble will be played to the second highlight, in the final heat to the third highlight. From the German Championships 2018 on the changing of the dance leadership is an obligation in the presentation dance of a couple prior the finals of the A-classes. We request to perform the changing of the dance leadership voluntarily at the German Championships 2017 in Fuerth. Rules of the Ages in the competitions concerning the senior classes: The European Same-Sex Dance Association (ESSDA) determined new age regulations. Those apply for all championships using the rules of the ESSDA and therefore for the German Chamionships of the female and male couples as well: To participate as a senior couple both partners have to be each at least 40 years old and together at least 90 years old (adding both ages). The event organisers are authorized to check the ID cards.
