About Fuerth

“Fuerth”, the Franconians call it “Fädd”, is a city in the middle of Franconia. Perhaps you have already noticed that the Franconians are the people infiltrating the Bavarians from within. Well… actually they really ARE the better Bavarians ;) But since the Franconians don’t care about exact pronunciation the city name “Fuerth” originates from the word “Furt”, which means “ford” since the first people settled at the ford of the river Rednitz. Ford - Furt - Fuerth - Fädd? Yes, welcome to complicated Franconia! The first time Furth was mentioned was 1007 in a document. During its history Furth experienced a turbulent transformation from a little settlement to a major city. The merging of Fuerth with Nuremberg to one city was denied many times by its citizens. The people in Fuerth are indeed proud of their city… Today, together with the city of Erlangen and the small suburb Nuremberg mentioned above, Fuerth is the one and only centre of Franconia. No, seriously: The major cities Nueremberg, Fuerth and Erlangen represent together the “Metropolregion Nuremberg”, the heart of Franconia. As you, the observant reader, already noticed: The citizens of Nuremberg and Fuerth often make fun of each other. That’s the way it was and still is. And so you can observe what all Franconias have in common: The humor and the tendency to nag themselves and their neighbours. Nevertheless: You can find everything in Fuerth. Culture, science and shopping opportunities. Fuerth is a great city inviting you to discover it. As an example you can visit the beautiful old downtown with the “Grüner Markt” and the neighbouring “Gustavstrasse” with all it’s cafés, ice cream shops, small stores, restaurants and pubs. Some big companies had and still have their home in Fuerth, like Quelle and Grundig. They helped Fuerth to gain importance and gave the city its unique character. You will find further information about Fuerth here: Website Fuerth: www.fuerth.de Fuerth on Wikipedia: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fürth Or you just go and make your own discoveries in Fuerth. But beware - don’t go too far and not to Nuremberg ;)
